4 ways to make Las Vegas a win
Score some cash, take in a grand show or enjoy a swoon-worthy meal –Sin City has something for everyone.
Fine dining, amazing entertainment and gambling are usually at the top of the list for anyone visiting Las Vegas, but don’t let all the options overwhelm you. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or rookie taking in Vegas for the first time, we’ve rounded up a few of the best tips to make sure you have a vacation you’ll never forget.
Pack your walking shoes, or know when and how to get a ride
While it might seem like everything on The Strip is close together and within walking distance, think again. The Strip is 4 miles long with super long blocks. If you’re just going to the spot next door, go ahead and put on your walking shoes, but anything farther might require a car (taxi, Uber, Lyft or rented car). Because it’s so hot, be sure to carry a bottle of water as you explore popular destinations outdoors and apply sunscreen frequently.
Grab a bit to eat
Whether you’re looking for a fine dining experience before a show or just grabbing a quick bite to eat, there are hundreds of options surrounding – and inside – all the resorts. Peak dinner time at the popular buffets is between 6 and 8 p.m., so plan accordingly if you don’t want to fight long lines.
Las Vegas has become a foodie’s paradise, with luxury restaurants and of-the-moment options from acclaimed chefs including Tom Colicchio, Hubert Keller, Jose Andres and many more. If you have your heart set on one of these high-end splurge restaurants, it’s a good idea to make reservations weeks or even months before your visit.
Don’t be afraid to check out happy hour specials, too, especially if you’re looking to leave The Strip and explore downtown Las Vegas, the historic area of old Las Vegas centered around Fremont Street. Check out this list of the best happy hours in the city.
Join the club
Even if you’re not a gambler, join every casino’s player’s club to earn freebies and discounts on restaurants, shows and other attractions. If you are there to gamble, you won’t want to bet a cent until you sign up for the clubs, or you could miss the chance to earn points for even more freebies the next time you visit.
Leave The Strip
We get it, most people go to Vegas for the resorts, restaurants and entertainment along The Strip, but the city is located near some beautiful natural wonders. Southwest of the city you’ll find Lake Mead, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. Hop on a brunch, dinner or sightseeing cruise to fully appreciate the beauty. While you’re there, the lake borders the Hoover Dam, which could very well already be on your bucket list. To the west sits beautiful Red Rock Canyon, perfect for a day of hiking.
Some adventurous travelers even book a seat on a helicopter sightseeing tour, taking in the amazing vistas from the sky.
